Men’s Night at The Collective Clinic (Recap)

My first time doing a presentation, but we don’t turn off the hockey game for anything. Photo by: @raymsclt

This past June, I had the pleasure of attending an event focused on men’s care in the realms of skin, clothes, and hair. The Men’s Night hosted by The Collective Clinic and in partnership with Kingly Custom Men’s Wear invited me to be a representative of Chin Whiskey, asking me to do a demonstration on how to elevate our at-home hairstyling techniques to boost our confidence in how we look.

I was pretty nervous leading up to the event and had only planned out my presentation days before. Until that point, I’d only ever done presentations for school, so I was used to the structure of having to have all my points set up perfectly, as well as the pressure of not stumbling over my words as all eyes would be on me. I rehearsed it over and over to make sure that I could really deliver value to the guests in a way that would be easy to follow.

The funny thing is that all the preparation that I had wasn’t truly necessary. I had expected to be speaking in front of a captive audience, and have their full attention. Instead, the evening was a social gathering where guests could mingle with each other as the demonstrations occurred in the background. Attendees could casually ask any pressing questions on their minds when they felt ready to. Although it took me a moment to adapt to this format, I think it was the ideal environment for my presentation nerves. It allowed those who were truly curious to engage with me on a topic I could passionately talk about and those less interested to still take a peek at what I was doing if they wanted to.

My presentation was a summary of the two main techniques for styling hair (which you can read about in their respective blog posts):

I was able to showcase both with two models, and I am grateful for their support throughout the evening and for letting me show off my expertise. They truly made my presentation go as smoothly as it could have gone and acted as my unofficial hype men!

I also had a great time watching the other demonstrations put on by the event partners. The Collective Clinic focuses on medical aesthetics such as Botox, fillers, and related skincare. They had a live demonstration of injections that could help chisel out the jawline and structure of the male face to give it a stronger and more masculine appearance. Not everyone can be born with those chiseled and defined features, and for some, these procedures can be an amazing way to achieve that desired look.

I appreciated that they took the time to address the stigma of cosmetic procedures for men, and informed the crowd on how these services are performed to appear natural and how safe they truly are for anyone. I found it to be a very eye-opening segment!

Kingly Custom Men’s Wear took the time to show off their process of measuring a client and assessing their body structure. As well as getting into the process of creating custom clothing. They had great tips on how clothes should fit when it is well-tailored to an individual and the ways that they can make unique, one-of-a-kind suits. I have always loved the concept of tailoring something to fit a person, and it was incredible to hear them talk passionately about how their clients receive items that are made specifically for them. Nowhere else in the world will there be another item like it, and for me, there’s no better way to boost confidence than to celebrate the individuality that someone possesses.

Overall, I am grateful to be given the opportunity to present and be a part of such a wonderful event. Even before things really kicked off, there was already talk of future events being held to make Men’s Night a regular occurrence to celebrate and advocate for men’s health, beauty, and wellness. I am excited for what’s to come and to be a part of something that can only grow upwards from here!
